Whelping/Socializing:

Whelping at Aldebaran Labradors occurs in our home.  I usually take 1 week off of work to tend to the pups and assure they all have a good start on life.  Dewclaws are removed at day 3.  From Day 4-16 we expose the pups to the "Super Puppy" program as described on the Diary of a Litter page.  This program jump starts the neurological responses in the pups, benefits the immune system, and helps the dogs better deal with stress when they are older.  We also microchip all our pups as a way to permanently identify our line.  It is the owners responsibility to pay for the submission of the paperwork to the Pet Recovery Program.  We socialize the pups with dogs, cats, children, the elderly, as well as the vacuum, various types of music, frozen quail, ducks, pheasant, chucker, and grouse.  At 6 weeks the pups will be evaluated by a certified canine Ophthalmologist to check the health of the eyes.  The pups are wormed throughout the time we have them and are inoculated before they are adopted.    

Adoption:

1)  Prospective buyers must fill out  a questionnaire and return it to us prior to being chosen as an adoptive family.  We often have a waiting list for our pups so if you are interested, please contact us to receive a questionnaire. 

2)  Our pups are generally sold at $1,000-$1500 depending upon the female bred and the stud used.

3)  We will select the best pup available that will fit your needs as listed in the questionnaire.  It is VERY important you be specific when you describe what traits you would like your dog to have, as well as what activities you will be doing with your dog.  Being around the pups daily we know what each pup has to offer and which one is best for You! 

4  It is REQUIRED by Aldebaran Labs that a fully fenced yard or kennel run be in place at the time of adoption.  Aldebaran Labs also highly recommends the use of a crate in the home as well as in a vehicle.  

5)  The first 9 letters of the dogs registered name are REQUIRED to be Aldebaran.

6)  Other fees incurred on the buyer are the listing of the microchip with the AVID recovery program ($15) and the cost of registering your pup with AKC (~ $30).  These fees will be paid directly to AVID and AKC by the buyer.  All costs associated with shipping a puppy will be paid by the buyer as well. 

7)  Puppies sold by Aldebaran Labradors cannot be neutered/spayed prior to the age of 1 year.  It has been documented that early spay or neutering can change the angle of bone growth around the knee making it easier to end up with knee problems. 

Guarantee:

We guarantee our stock to be able to receive clearances for hips/elbow/and eyes at the age of 2 years.  It will be the responsibility of the buyer to pay for the evaluation of their dog between 24 and 30 months of age, and to submit the x-rays and paperwork to OFA and CERF.  If clearances are not attained, the buyer will pay to spay or neuter the dog and upon receipt of proof of spay/neuter, we will refund 50% of the purchase price of the dog.   We do not require the dog be returned to us for you to receive the refund. 

If at any time you are not happy with your dog, for whatever reason, we will gladly take him back.  Upon delivery of your dog to us, the registration must be signed over.  We will evaluate the dog and determine which type of home best fits the dogs needs.  We will then place the dog in the appropriate home.  If any money exchanges hands during the placement of your dog, we will subtract any fees incurred by us, and return the balance to you.  We believe this is a fair guarantee and will back any dog we sell. 

If your puppy is spayed or neutered prior to the age of 1 year all guarantees are null and void.  All guarantees are effective for the original buyer but are null and void if the puppy is sold to another buyer.
